How To Know God
Sin
Everyone can admit that we’ve done something wrong—whether it was telling a lie, saying something we wish we hadn’t, or losing our temper. All of these moments, no matter how small, are sin. The Bible teaches that just one sin, no matter how small, separates every person from God (Romans 3:23) and earns us a one-way ticket to eternal destruction.
God’s Plan
God created us good and perfect in the Garden of Eden. But when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit, sin entered the world—and through them, into all of humanity. The perfect relationship we were created to have with God was broken. But God didn’t give up on us. Instead of destroying mankind, He made a way for us to be forgiven and restored to a right relationship with Him. The Bible teaches that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), and that “without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins” (Hebrews 9:22). That’s why God instituted the sacrificial system in the Old Testament. Those sacrifices covered sin temporarily, but they could never fully remove it. Only a perfect sacrifice could take away sin forever and make us right with God. So God sent His Son, Jesus, who lived a sinless life and willingly gave Himself as the ultimate and perfect sacrifice for all of humanity. On the cross, He took the wrath of God that we deserved. He suffered and died in our place so that we could be forgiven and have eternal life (2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 John 2:2). But death did not have the final word. Jesus rose from the dead, defeating sin and conquering the grave. His resurrection is the ultimate proof that His sacrifice was accepted by God and that new life is now available to all who believe in Him (Romans 4:25, 1 Peter 1:3).
What Do We Do?
Jesus took our record of sins upon Himself and died in our place (Col 2:14). This gift of forgiveness is available to the whole world, but it must be received personally. We receive it by trusting in Jesus as Lord and following Him. It is “by grace we are saved through faith—not by works” (Ephesians 2:8). The Bible says that if you “confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).
What’s the Next Step?
If you want to be forgiven of your sins and be sure that you will live forever in heaven with God, you must repent of your sins, place your faith in Jesus as your Savior, and begin to follow Him as your Lord. This isn’t about religion—it’s about a relationship with the One who gave His life for you and rose again to give you new life.
